Back in the Monster Stables, Carl Heinrich busied himself preparing for the upgrade operation. He had already swept all of the straw out of Killbot Rex's stall, and neatly arranged his engineering tools on a makeshift workbench. A neatly drawn hardware schematic, marked up with notations indicating exactly which components were to be replaced, tinkered with, or reinforced, was pinned to the wall.

Finally, the boy engineer approached Killbot Rex with a variety of ominous looking power tools. The war wolf looked up, a trusting expression in its optical sensors.
