Past Crayton and the roads that lead into the city, the landscape quickly devolves into Arensa's natural state, which is to say, it gets very wet and very marshy very quickly. Signs posted haphazardly around the marsh warn hikers that the marsh is dangerous, often with silhouetted images of four Chasma attacking a panicking person.

The marsh itself is rather unpleasant, with cold, brackish water ranging from a few inches to a few feet deep covering much of it. Flies, mosquitoes, and gnats buzz around in biting swarms, and anyone unfortunate enough to slip in the water is likely to emerge with a few friendly leeches clinging to their skin.
