Can you use combat skills (such as archery) as the 'any skills' - and if so do class abilities etc for using a combat skill work here?

Yes to both.

Just remember that they are also still Social Skills.

Would "Precise Memory" help with the Monster Lore roll in the "tell us about your companion" step of this event?
