Tournament Rules

Post by Mindshred » Thu Mar 16, 2023 12:46 pm

The following rules are in place for "The Oceanside Rumble" Tournament

Single Wrangler, Single Monster: Each match is between two Wranglers, each with one monster. The same monster must be used in every match.

Victory Conditions: Matches will end when one Wrangler concedes (a free action at the start of their turn) or when one monster becomes Unconscious. In the event that both monsters become Unconscious at the same time, the winner will be decided by the judges (i.e., the GM).

Arena Size: The Tournament grounds are an ovular arena 100 ft. long and 80 ft. wide. A 10 ft. area on either side of the arena is marked off as a "Wrangler Area," making the effective battle area 80 ft. by 80 ft. Wranglers may not voluntarily leave their Wrangler Area while the match is in progress; doing so results in a forfeit of the match. Monsters may not voluntarily enter a Wrangler Area.

Monsters begin the match 30 ft. from their Wranglers (and thus, 20 ft. from each other).

The arena is considered to have a vertical height of 8 ft., which ensures that flying monsters will still be within melee range of monsters on the ground. Since this is a beginner tournament, the organizers want to ensure that monsters who have not had time to learn any ranged attacks can still compete against their winged opponents.

Wrangler Involvement: Wranglers must remain in their Wrangler Area for the entirety of their match. They are barred from directly attacking enemy monsters but may still issue Commands and use items such as Medicine Sprays (though this requires them to be in range, which means their monster will most likely have to move adjacent to their Wrangler Area).

Match-Making: The Oceanside Rumble is a single-elimination bracketed tournament. Each Wrangler will be paired up against an opponent, and the winners will advance to the next round. Each round of the tournament matches will take place over the course of a single day.

Note that there will still be roleplaying and other events taking place over the entirety of the game, so even if you get eliminated early, there will still be things to do!

Healing: AMBA officials have medics on staff that will heal each monster to full health after each match. Note that monsters may still suffer Injuries during battle; AMBA encourages Injured monsters to drop out of the tournament but ultimately leaves the decision in the hands of their Wranglers. Note that Injured monsters who become Injured again will perish.

Prizes: The winner of The Oceanside Rumble will receive a rare monster egg as well as a purse of 200 onz. The second place Wrangler will receive a less rare egg and a purse of 50 onz.
