[D3 EE] A Night Out

[Felix Lang]

Felix had a note delivered to Calico to meet him outside the hotel. He stood there waiting by the doors. He had dressed up a bit favoring a long sleeved shirt to fight off some of the chill in the night.

Suramu was staying with the medics for a bit longer so the active ape was missing tonight.

Felix just had his hands in his pockets while he looked at the sun setting over the horizon and hummed a little tune to himself.

[Calico Carter]

Calico's overall mood was, like Schrodinger's Cat, contingent upon events not as yet observed, but whether Orlok had won or lost, she'd put in a bit of effort.

True, the yellow dress she'd been wearing earlier was still what she had on, and true, it still showed its origins as a long sleeveless shirt with a belt thrown on over it. True, she wore the same rather ratty sneakers she always did.

But she'd clearly grabbed a fresh shower, and judging by his absence, Orlok was hopefully behaving back in the hotel room.

Playing with the feather he'd gotten from Blitz, most likely.

"Hey, didn't keep you waiting long, did I?"

[Felix Lang]

Felix turned to look and his smile widened "Oh no way. Just been hanging out humming this song stuck in my head. Not even really sure how long I've been here. I can space out pretty hard sometimes." He said with a laugh.

"Yellow is a really nice color on you. You look great." He said earnestly. If the cobbled together and worn nature of her dress bothered him, he didn't act like it.

"So! How are you feeling about walking around town a bit? I don't really know this place well but figure there's gotta be somewhere decent to get food that isn't that overpriced jazz bar."

[Calico Carter]

"You don't look too bad yourself... so. Sure, we can take a bit of a stroll."

She looked around.

"Dunno about decent, it's been a long time since I went looking for anything but whatever was cheapest..."

[Felix Lang]

"Awesome." He turned slowly and started walking heading through the narrow streets of the city "I've been travelling with Suramu for a bit and I'm not made of money either so I definitely get that. But I'm sure we can find somewhere that a couple of onz can go far enough." His voice was bright and hopeful as they walked through the town.

[Calico Carter]

"If all else fails, sounds like neither of us is a stranger to missing a meal."

She chuckled.

"How is he, anyway? Suramu, I mean."

[Felix Lang]

"Hey I thought I was supposed to be the optimistic one." He chuckles back.

His smile softens a touch "Oh Sumu is alright. He's a tough little guy. Pretty upset by the loss, I'd rather him be upset than really injured though. That maguana is a real monster of a, well, monster."

[Calico Carter]

"Think it's a family trait. You know Fiadh regards him as her brother, right?"

[Felix Lang]

He looked a little surprised "Huh? Really." A realization dawns on him "Oh shit, she was being literal." He said more just out loud to himself "after our match she said I cared for Sumaru the way Riki's mother cared for her."

"Do you think...she was actually raised by maguana?"

[Calico Carter]

"I have no idea. I try not to get too mixed up with anyone whose closest companion is borderline feral. And that's just Riki!"

[Felix Lang]

He laughed a bit at that behind a hand that came up to his mouth "is she really that bad? Guess I only talked to her briefly."

"Buuuuut Fidah is not who I'm really interested in talking about tonight." He speaks with a good humored smile.

"Tell me a bit about yourself Calico. Outside of the whole..." He vaguely waves with his hand "thing."

[Calico Carter]

"I think you'll find that beneath this flashy exterior, I haven't got much going on."

She might have been joking.

"My life's been defined by my screwups and mistakes for so long it's sort of become who I am."

Maybe not.

"Case in point, I'm a trapper without any trapping equipment. I was a decent amateur dancer who now doesn't dare go on stage. I'm such a magnificently terrible better that my debts eclipse any winnings... So. I'd be very curious about just what it is you'd like to know."

[Felix Lang]

His lips curled up a bit in the corner "I think I gathered quite a bit just now."

"Guess some of those are easier fixes than others. But hey you're still out here trying. Could be doing a lot of things but you're trying wrangling, you're a risk taker."

[Calico Carter]

"I would think the gambling debts made that clear enough."

She chuckled.

"Among the risks I'm prepared to run? Finding a dishwashing gig when this all wraps up, because if I hadn't interviewed well I would have literally two onz to my name."

A pause.

"Although Mara's looking into other options, and Orlok and Blitz will want to spend time together, so..."

[Felix Lang]

"It might have been a big puzzle piece but there were other things."

He looked pensive for a moment "Mara? Hmm don't think I know that one. She's not a competitor just a local you bumped into?"

[Calico Carter]

"Oh, Mara's a sweetheart- she's... semi-local. Mara Froste? Has a lovely staguar named Blitz, and now a taichen named Talia."

She gave a rueful chuckle.

"She's another member of the financially challenged set."

[Felix Lang]

"Ahhh well I'm glad to see our little company of the financially Unlucky grows." He chuckles as well.

"And so what's this about Orlok and blitz? Hung out enough to become friends or?"

[Calico Carter]

"They're, uh... mated, actually. It's... don't ask me how it works, because I sure as hell didn't watch, but... yeah. A saturnadus and a staguar. Go figure."

[Felix Lang]

His eyes widened a bit "huh...well...ho-..." He barely stopped himself from asking the question that was explicitly not to be asked. He cleared his throat "that is very interesting." He settled on.

"Well you're the trapper so I guess she's a breeder then." nothing else really explains two monsters so different getting on so well. "interesting field to go into."

"So planning on sticking around then for a bit after all this is done with?"

[Calico Carter]

"Well, Mara's been talking about travel, and I'd hate to part Orlok and Blitz until we're sure they have at least some offspring... but honestly, my plans are pretty open at present."

Beat.

"Well, apart from throwing money at my bookie, anyway."
