[Day 4, Late Morning] Paying Up (Open)

[Calico Carter]

Calico hated this part. It was always pretty bad, but...

But getting the shit kicked out of me would be even worse.

So she met the guy, and handed over a cut of what she'd managed to scrape up.

The debt collector- a big, scarred slab of muscle who looked like he twisted the heads off of adult armathysts for fun- looked mildly disappointed when she handed over the cash. He didn't say as much, he just... looked her over. Frowned. Took the money. And left.

Calico exhaled.

Good thing I actually had something to fork over...

[Felix Lang]

Felix had been out walking about the city a bit, his day was essentially wide open most of the time now.

He moved through the slightly narrowed streets whistling a tune to himself as Suramu followed along with him he might have been a little restless without a minster to fight the last couple days but he was doin well enough.

The pair turned a corner and Felix smiled wide seeing Calico but his brow furrowed a bit seeing the guy she had just been talking to.

As he left Felix approached her "Hey Calico!" He said brightly as he did.

Ah, hello vague swirling feelings with a tinge of guilt.

But she did smile.

"Hey stranger. Going my way?"

[Felix Lang]

"Well going a way but yours is certainly the most attractive option." He says with a little smile.

He paused a little "Everything good?" He asked jerking his head in the direction of the retreating thug.

[Calico Carter]

"Well, I won't be getting kicked around an alleyway, maybe getting a bone broken, so... well as can be expected."

She shifted her weight a bit from one foot to the other.

"Frankly, I think he was a bit let down. That is a man who enjoys his work."

[Felix Lang]

She hadn't known Felix long but of that time they've spent together one thing had almost always been constant. He typically had a happy, positive out look on things and his expressions tended to match that.

The expression that he wore now was unlike anything she'd seen from him before, first there was surprise "Wait that guy was planning to hurt you if you didn't have the money?"

Then as the realization set in his frown deepend and there was an angry heat to his gaze, it looked like he might actually be contemplating doing something.

[Calico Carter]

"That is generally how debt collections from shady bookies like Louie the Nose work, yes...."

She trailed off a bit.

"It's not personal. I owe. Part of why I'm here, I'm looking for a big enough score to make it so that that charming gentleman- his name is Kort, by the by, Tobin Kort- never looks my way again. And before you get feeling heroic, if he got eaten by a giant hergh tomorrow, they'd just send someone else. Maybe someone less professional."

[Felix Lang]

He still frowned but the feel of impending action leeched away "I don't think it's heroic to not like people that want to hurt people for a living." He took a centering breath "but you're right it wouldn't help anything."

"I do wish there was some way I could help, guess just know I'm rooting for you then." He said with his smile slowly returning.

[Calico Carter]

"And I appreciate it Felix. Sincerely. But I'm working on it. I got myself into this mess, might be Orlok and I can get me out of it."

[Felix Lang]

He held up hands "I know I know, it's my bad. I know you got this. That Scovine better bring a pillow to the match." He said grinning.

"How was last night by the way? After we said goodnight that is, I'm not asking for a review."

[Calico Carter]

Nothing for it now- the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

"Oh! I, uh... well, I went up to let Orlok out, and he was feeling antsy, so we went to the bar. Figured, yeah, it's overpriced, but I could maybe get one drink. Then, ah.... well, you know Rayfe? The guy with the really cute magnox? Yeah, Nyx got loose wandered over to where Orlok and I were sitting, and he offered to pick up my tab by way of apology."

Beat.

"Mistakes were made. I hadn't had a drink in, like, a year, so I went a little crazy with daiquiris. Crawled back to the hotel, and I made it upstairs to drink about six gallons of water before passing out."

Another pause.

"Orlok seemed to find it all pretty funny. The little jerk."

[Felix Lang]

Felix nodded along with the story and gave a Hearty laugh "Well certainly sounds like you had a heck of a night. It's been a while since I've gone out drinking myself though I'd probably be able to hold a few just cause of my size!" He chuckled a little more.

He nudged her with an elbow "though probably not the smartest idea the night before a big match eh?" His tone was mock reproach and he punctuated with a wink.

[Calico Carter]

"Ah, Felix, smart and I aren't even passing acquaintances. Smart people don't get visits from Tobin Kort. So it was entirely up to my usual standards..."

She grimaced.

"Besides, the water helped a lot. I actually woke up feeling... pretty okay."

[Felix Lang]

"Ay well I'm no stranger to bad decisions myself so I can't really judge." He smiles.

"And that's good to hear, feeling pretty ok is probably the best outcome there."

"So what are your plans before the match today?" He asked with hands in his pockets.

[Calico Carter]

"Well, I've paid off a scary guy with no neck who was operating on behalf of a little guy with a big nose, so... my calendar's free until Orlok and I go tangle with that scovine..."

Pause.

"You got any suggestions?"

[Felix Lang]

Felix laced his fingers together behind his head looking up thinking "Well already explored most of the street stuff, you got pretty well acquainted with the bar," he shit her a grin "from the stuff I've seen that leaves hanging out on the beach, or checking out the mall."

"Unless you were really hankering to check out the Marsh."

[Calico Carter]

"Time enough for the marsh later- there's a pest control gig lined up for it. Now... the mall? Maybe. Doesn't really seem like your scene, though. And the beach, well... I've been wearing raggedy-ass shirts and cutoffs 'cause I can't afford a swimsuit, so if you don't mind staying on shore, could be fun..."

[Felix Lang]

"What makes you say that? About the mall." He asked curiously with an eyebrow raised.

[Calico Carter]

She started ticking reasons off on her fingers.

"Nothing fashionable comes in your size, you couldn't afford it it did, you wouldn't wear it if you could afford it, you walk around with a temprill most of the time..."

[Felix Lang]

Felix clutched his metaphorical pearls in mock indignation "how dare you lob entirely factual statements at me!"

He looks down at his clothing the shirt and jacket combed with loose fitting pants "I wouldn't say I'm not fashionable.......am i?"
